A person who contaminated candy with sleeping medication and distributed them to children at a youth camp in the area has confessed to sexual offences against two boys aged nine and ten years old.
Jon Ruben was taken into custody after eight youngsters and one adult became sick at Stathern Lodge in July.
The elderly man, from Ruddington in Nottinghamshire, confessed to a multiple criminal counts when he appeared at the judicial center on Friday.
Yet, he denied one particular crime he was charged with, which was against a nine-year-old boy.
The accused was kept in jail prior to a additional proceeding on November 28th.
'Candy game'
The legal representative, handling the case, detailed the defendant's actions to the judicial body.
She explained his victims were disadvantaged youngsters who were participating in a summer program which he managed.
Ruben conducted a "candy game" with the minors, Mrs Prior said, in which he would access the sleeping quarters when they were getting ready for bed and tell them to eat sweets "rapidly".
She informed the proceedings the defendant had conducted this practice with the boys "over an extended period", and minors had earlier experienced illness the next day.
She stated Ruben had been capable of justifying this repeatedly as the youngsters being "overexcited from fun", until his family member had worries in summer 2025.
The legal representative continued: "Recently" his family member had concerns about the situation, justifiably.
"They chose" to examine in the defendant's belongings."
The prosecutor explained materials including baby oil, ointment and syringes were located, and his family member notified the authorities about his worries.
She stated the defendant continued to conduct the "candy game" with six children that evening - that Saturday - and they were all ill the following morning.
"The police had not arrived by that time," she continued.
The oversight body, the police conduct office, had stated that it was investigating law enforcement's management of the incident.
The legal representative stated the minors were having difficulty walking due to being ill, so the family member called the police once more.
She said the man then played the "sweet game" in a space of five minors.
