The Baldur's Gate 3 Creators Unveil a Fresh Divinity, Declaring it Their Largest RPG Yet

The speculation around this year's gaming ceremony reached a fever pitch, especially after presenter Geoff Keighley posted a mysterious photo of a strange statue. The mystery has now been solved. The acclaimed developer is working on a fresh Divinity game.

Revealed to be Divinity, the game was presented with a bold trailer that included striking imagery, from a figure engulfed in flames to scenes of revelry and the literal opening of infernal gates.

Moving Beyond Original Sin

For those anticipating Divinity Original Sin 3, this is not that. The studio clarified that a direct sequel to its venerated RPGs is not currently in development.

Nevertheless, the developer described this new Divinity as a next chapter of the main series. This choice of words hints that the team is likely crafting a more action-oriented experience instead of another turn-based title. Currently, it remains theory, as only a cinematic trailer is available.

The Legacy of Divinity

The Divinity series is universally respected and arguably it pioneered the contemporary revival of complex computer role-playing games. These games are known for detailed worlds, choice-driven narratives, and deep class systems—qualities that recently found massive success in games like Baldur's Gate 3.

While its world is traditional swords and sorcery, what really distinguishes Divinity apart is the remarkable agency bestowed upon the player.

While numerous modern RPGs have streamlined options, Divinity is brimming with unique possibilities you can achieve if you're playing as a distinct build with a personal story.

The series is also wonderfully flexible, letting players to experiment in narrative and gameplay. Nearly every quest can be solved in multiple ways, often in surprising fashion.

  • You might progress the story because you heeded something a dog told you.
  • Or, you could bypass a challenge by using the world itself in a unorthodox way.

A New Chapter Begins

It is this design philosophy that allow people to declare games like Divinity Original Sin 2 as one of the best role-playing games in history. Now, players can anticipate a new entry in this esteemed franchise.
